About Me
A proud Kentuckian and humanistic bon vivant, aside from my academic pursuits (under Scholarship), I enjoy stand-up comedy, Americana/Country Music, pescatarian cooking, genealogy and various forms of football (American/NFL, rugby union, association), a sport I played collegiately for the Murray State Racers. I served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the France Paris Mission (1998–2000: Paris 7e, Vannes, Le Vésinet, Argenteuil, Brest, Torcy), before completing my BA and MA in French Studies here at BYU, taking my PhD in French & Francophone Studies at UCLA and marrying Maria Cabrera (2006). We are the parents of three children, who are enrolled in French immersion (DLI) programs and whose youth sports teams we often coach. I serve on the 16th-century French forum executive committee for MLA and am also the current director of MARS (BYU Medieval & Renaissance Studies) and editor-in-chief of Lingua Romana.
